PBL Focus Week 9 - Canteen This week our PBL focus has been on how to be respectful, responsible and perform our personal best when using the canteen. Students have recognised the importance of lining up in two lines against the wall, listening and following instructions and returning promptly to their designated eating area. Operation Art

Congratulations Arowen on having your artwork selected to be displayed as part of Operation Art. Every year schools across New South Wales are invited to participate in Operation Art, an initiative of The Children's Hospital at Westmead in association with the New South Wales Department of Education. The Operation Art program provides a forum for schools and students to demonstrate their visual arts achievements through exhibitions at the Armory Gallery, Sydney Olympic Park and the Art Gallery of New South Wales.... NDIS continues its roll out across NSW

The National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) started in NSW in July 2016, rolling out across half of the state. The rollout for the rest of NSW started on 1 July 2017 and the NDIS will be fully rolled out by mid 2018. The NSW government is writing to the families of children and young people with disability who currently receive disability supports in the rollout areas to advise how and when they will enter the NDIS. NAPLAN Online School readiness test

NSW schools will participate in the NAPLAN Online School Readiness Test from 14 August to 22 September. There is a lot of information for schools, students and parents on the NAPLAN Online transition website. The school readiness test is a ‘practice run' for schools to assess their technology as we prepare to transition to NAPLAN Online. It provides an opportunity for schools to become familiar with the NAPLAN Online assessment platform but is not an assessment of student ability.... Read more

Touch Team

Boys Touch Football Games

On Monday the 26th of June our Boys Touch Football team travelled to Chertsey Public School to play Round 2 of the knockout. They were victorious in winning this game with a score of 9-2. This meant that the boys stayed on to verse Gosford East's team for Round 3. We also took out a win in this game with a score of 8-1. The boys showed excellent team skills, working together to devise tactics while playing and taking on advice from the sideline. Both of our debating teams were very pleased to have won their debates against opponents from Brooke Avenue Public School today. Our 'Brainiacs' team argued the affirmative for the topic that we should get rid of school uniforms. Our Challengers team argued the negative for the topic that we should ban homework for all school students. These students have been working extremely hard during training and we wish them all them all best for their final showdown: Avoca vs Avoca.... Read more


Camp Quality Puppet Show

Last week our students attended the Camp Quality Puppet Show. The touring puppet show for primary schools answers difficult questions kids have about cancer. Often the effects of cancer can be confronting for young kids - when children return to school they often look very different as a result of the side effects from their treatment. The show encourages kids to be supportive of their classmate who has a mum, dad, brother or sister living with cancer – or who has cancer themselves.... Read more

Congratulations to our 'Avoca Challengers' debating team for an outstanding effort in their first debate against Terrigal Public School. Lachlan, Seb, Olivia & Leila argued the Negative case for the topic parents should never let kids under the age of ten have any screen time. They developed and presented an outstanding case, however the Terrigal team were equally strong and ended up winning the debate for this round. Debating Success

Pearl, Zoe, Natalie and Natasha were elated to have won both of their debates last Monday. The team debated against formidable opponents from Killarney Vale Public School and Bateau Bay Public School. This was the first competitive debate experience for each team member and we are extremely proud of their efforts. Thanks to our Grandparents Day Book Drive being such a huge success, we now have lots of fantastic new books to get out to our eager readers. If you are available Tuesday mornings from 9:30 -10:30 please come along to the library to assist with labeling and covering our new books. The P&C receiving cheque from Star FM

COLA Opening and Star F.M. Visit

Avoca Beach Public School P&C had a vision of providing our students with a COLA (Covered Outdoor Learning Area) to provide them with an additional space to work and play. Over the past few years they have worked tirelessly towards achieving this goal. In partnership with additional school funding and a $23 000 grant from the State Government initiative - Community Partnerships, their goal was achieved. Healthy School Canteens

Introducing Healthy School Canteens

The introduction of the revised Healthy School Canteen Strategy increases the availability of healthy food and drink options in school canteens to make the healthy choice, the easy choice. It replaces the Fresh Tastes@School Strategy in NSW schools that was commonly known as the traffic light system. The revised strategy is consistent with the 2013 Australian Dietary Guidelines and classifies food and drinks as either Everyday or Occasional. Sugary drinks will continue not to be sold.
